Essential Oils went from something that only massage therapists and hippies used to something that you can buy in the grocery store, but what they heck are they!
Essential oils are the life blood of plants that is extracted through distilling, resin tapping or cold pressing the plant. Creating a concentrated liquid that holds the healing and wellness properties of the botanical it stems from. They are so concentrated that one 15mL bottle of lemon from Young Living is the equivalent to 25 lemons!
There are three ways to use these concentrated gifts from God in your everyday life, aromatic diffusion, topical application, and dietary consumption.
Aromatic diffusion utilizes ultrasonic technology to disperse microparticles from the oil & water combination into the air and thus distributes the properties from the oil throughout the space. AKA adding the essential oil to water in the basin of a diffuser and turning it on sends the benefits of the oil into the room through the air. (This is my favorite way to introduce our daughter to an oil! It allows her body to experience a lower concentration of the oil rather than topically applying it to her skin.)
Topical application is just how it sounds, putting the essential oil right on your skin. I mainly use oils in this way - a drop here, two drops there - all throughout my day. Since the oils are of such a high concentration it's recommended to start slow. Use one drop and maybe even mix it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil or vitamin e oil to slow the absorption rate, see how your body responds, and proceed from there.
Dietary consumption means internalizing the oils. This could be through use of a vegetable capsule that you place the oils in yourself, adding a few drops to your meal or beverage, or simply putting a drop in your mouth. (Peppermint works wonders as a last minute breath freshener!)
There really isn't a "wrong" way to use oils. They are the essence of botanical life in our world in concentrated form to help us have a life of health and wellness! Remember to always use the highest quality and standard of essential oils, especially if you plan to ingest them.
