Have you ever "perfectly" timed a morning in your mind, but reality has a different plan? My perfectly timed morning included a physical therapy appointment, plenty of time to get home, get ready and pack my bag for work, and be out the door with time to spare. However, welcomed with a squeal, grin, and "HI, HI" from my daughter...I got distracted. We talked, played a bit, then I realized it was time to finish getting ready and leave to get to work on time.
In a flurry I ran through my list of things for work. Coffee mug, check. Lunch, check. Snack, check. One last snuggle from my daughter, check. Car keys, check, kiss my husband, check. Out the door I went. Unpacking my bag at work I realized I left one essential thing at home; the bottles and flanges for my pump. Any pumping mama can tell you that a motor without the bottles and flanges might as well be a sound machine. You can't do much without all the parts together.
Thankfully, my husband was able to drop them off on his way to work. The downside? It was 2 hours after my body would be ready to pump. As the minutes clicked by, I felt a "knot" that wasn't so happy I had to wait. Having experienced this before, I knew what I'd do when I got home.
Sharing with one of the women I work with, I told her it was going to be a hot compress night and taking an extra supplement to prevent further issues. Brilliantly she suggested a hot cup of tea, in place of a compress, to hold & sip while I sat at the desk. Genius! Bonus, my favorite mug was with me today and is thrown clay, so it holds heat very well.
So at work, at the front desk, I sat with my "hot tea, hot compress" replacement. It worked beautifully and my body was appreciative to not have to wait for relief. It also provided a level of comedy. I'll be sure to check that I have all my pump parts when I pack my bag! New tip, haha, next time you need a hot compress, a cup of hot tea might just do the trick! ;)
